TrailFest 2016

Glasgow TrailFest2 - Mugdock Park on Saturday 15th October

Trail running is the ultimate way to escape city life and Glasgow is a great place to start. A mere 20 minutes on your feet and you can be surrounded by nature, breathing deeply. Mugdock is famed for this kind of escapism- with miles upon miles of grassy trail and a direct link into the West Highland Way. There's something you get from time on the trails that just can't be achieved by pounding the pavement.

Co-Founder Jo Cowper on the trails

Do you love trail running? Want to celebrate that? Well get yourself along to TrailFest and get inspired; no matter your ability or experience of the great outdoors. TrailFest 2016's theme is ‘Building the Dream’- discussing how people transformed themselves from Average Joe runners to serious trail athletes who achieved crazy things. You could too. The festival runs all day on the Saturday, and is split into four major parts:

TrailFIT: Practical Training Sessions

  • Improve your trail skills with sessions on strength for trail runners.
  • Learn how to navigate in wilderness by Gary Tompsett (he's the guy that designs all of Scotland's Skyline race routes).
  • Get bendy with yoga for runners.
  • Wheeze through a speed session by West Highland Way 2016 winner James Stewart.
  • Go a casual jog with pros Marco Consani or Debbie Martin-Consani.

TrailHEROES: Inspirational Speaker Programme

  • Quiz elites Marco Consani, Debbie Martin-Consani, and Casey Morgan in a Q&A.
  • Gary Tompsett is going to talk about adventure navigation so you never lose your way.
  • Lucja Leonard ran across the Netherlands, 500k, in 5 days straight and has some lessons to communicate.
  • Sophie Mullins, Scotland’s 100km champion, talks about how she overcame her health problems to excel.
  • James Stewart tells all on how he went from average guy to WHW-winning trail-running hero.
  • Graham Kelly will provide laughs and epic photos about the Tromso Skyline race (Killian Jornet's pet project).
  • Susie Allison, author of Scottish Trail Running Guide, talks about all the trails out there.
  • Robert Hamilton tries to convince everyone to add open water swimming to their runs.
  • Lastly, to round it all off there will be three beautiful short films about trail running by Dave McLeod.

TrailRUN: Running and Racing

Race a mile across country parklands. Achieve a PB on a Strava 5km time trial loop- just imagine the Strava segment and kudos!

TrailCHAT: After Party

Have some beers and some BBQ in stunning country park whilst nattering about the trails and the mountains with people who's eyes won't glaze over.

I cannot wait for this festival. The line up is basically a list of the big names in trail running; people that I admire greatly and that inspire breathy cries of, "Aren't they amazing?". This event allows you to connect with these people in a warm atmosphere. After all, they may be elite but they are also just people like you who like being on the trails.

Does this sound like your kind of party? Early bird £35 tickets are available till the 31st August, then the price'll go up! Check out the line-up and buy tickets HERE, follow them on twitter here, instagram here, or facebook here.

I hope to see you there and go for a run together!

I know the founders of TrailFest and wanted to get involved in promoting the festival. My opinions are always honest and I only promote products and events I truly believe in. I believe in TrailFest.
